A great Sunday School class today

Again as I was preparing for out SS class I was feeling like it was material that we all knew well and didn't need to be converted to the principle of ordinances for the dead. So, I just decided to follow the manual (surprise) and let the spirit take us thru where we needed to go. Again, the class members were way ahead of me in the scriptures etc. Our discussion followed the manual very closely and then we got to President Hinckley's contribution to work for the dead. Of course it is his push for building temples. One of the class members is our Area President and he told about a napkin that is in the Church archives that was used by Pres. Hinckley to draw the plans for the small temples on. It is said that he could not sleep, so got up very early and drew this plan. They said that he told the brethren he couldn't sleep well and then they discussed the new temple plan. Our Temple president was a mission president in Mexico and Pres. Hinckley came down to visit 12 stakes in a very short period. He flew from one to another and did more than one a day. Anyway, they said when he got home from this trip was when he decided to do the small temples to meet the needs of those members in far away places that would never have the opportunity to go to the temple. Then one sister said she had heard that Pres. Hinckley had a lot of knowledge about designing buildings, and building them etc. They said he did and our Area Pres. told of a time that the Olympics committee had a plan to build something in SLC and they came to the First Presidency and asked what they thought. After looking at the plans, Pres. Hinckley said - well, what about that pipe that is about 10-15 feet underground? They didn't know about a pipe, so went and searched records and sure enough there was a pipe under there that they would need to deal with. He said President Hinckley had a great mind for detail and a great memory. Just a neat experience for me to hear these things about our temples.
I am not sure, but I think there is more talk of temples now. Here in Lima they talk about doing temple work all the time. I don't think many people talk in church that they don't express their love for temple work and having a temple here. When the General Authorities were here a couple of weeks ago, one said that the reason the people in Lima have a temple is because they are faithful tithe payers. He promised that as other areas in Peru increase their tithing payment they too will be blessed with a temple. He promised that there will be many temples in this country. They really do need some in both ends of this country. There is one in the planning stages in Trujillo but won't finish for at least 2 years. The people from there come down to Lima and it takes as much at 15-18 hours one way. They come and shower and put on their Sunday clothes and come into the temple after waiting in line to get in and then waiting in line for a session. It is truly amazing to me. I love the buzz in the temple when it is full.
