THE SUN IS SHINING

What an unusual thing in Lima. The sun is not only shining, but there is blue sky and a few white clouds. Just yesterday in the temple we were talking about how seldom we see blue sky and then here it is. Because of the way the mountains around Lima are and the winds etc. there is usually a gray cloud over the city. When you think of 8 million people in one place and all the gunk in the air it is a wonder any of us are healthy.

Yesterday was another different day at the temple. Each day is truely not the same. There was a bus strike yesterday in the city so there weren't any busses running. For prep. meeting we had 7 sisters and 3 men. We usually have about 15-20 sisters and 7-9 men. So, it was scarey thinking of running the temple, but then no one came for sessions etc. because they couldn't get a bus. Sis Hawkins said at 10:00 when they got there there were marchers with sticks and rocks getting after people who were waiting for the bus and damaging cars of people who drove by. They were gone by the time we got there at 1:00 so they either got tired or the police broke them up. The security people at the temple were being very cautious about who they let into the grounds.

Anyway, it was another first day for me. I was able tohelp with a session. My first. We had two sisters and 4 brothers. One of the brothers was a new one who had been trying to get to the temple for the 5:00 session and he made it for the 7:00 session. Sweet spirit there.

Between blue skys and sunshine and new experiences this is bound to be a good day. This is maybe the second day since we have been here that the sky has been blue. The first time I had to stop and look up to enjoy it. Today is even more clear. And, there has been one night that I could see clear sky. The moon, but no stars. They say they are up there. We will need to get away from the city to see them.

  1. We were in Lima from October 2009 to March 2009. (We moved to Tarma at the first of February.) From November to March, it was sunny (nice!) but it was also hot, hot, hot almost every day. The only pleasant place in the city was the temple, which has nice central air. Our apartment was unbearably hot. So choose your poison.
