These ladies live on this island. You can see their native dress. They are demonstrating the barter system on the islands.
This is the island people as they sang "God Be with You until We Meet Again" to us as we left their island. The children were so very cute. I could have taken them home with me. See their houses in the background. This was the most fascinating part of our trip. I could send a lot more pictutres. I think I will.
This man is demonstrating how they build the island. The island is ten years old. Each month they add more reeds to the top layer. You can see the blocks they cut to put together to make the base. Then they put reeds log cabin style on top of the base. They use that big long saw to cut the base with. Then they stake the island down on the four corners so it won't float away. You can see our boat in the back ground. It took about 25 mins. to get to the island.
This is the fish pond they have made on their island. They have a mesh that holds the fish in. They keep fresh fish there for their meals.
This is the island as we were ready to land. The people came to greet us with the traditional hug and kiss. They were clean, happy and so friendly. The tower is just to get the view of the island. It is about 1.5 acres large.
