Continued- the trip south

This is our group of fliers in front of the plane. The other people were from UK and Africa. The plane held only 8 people. Not too large, but great to see the Nasca Lines.
This is our hotel in Ica the town next to the lines. It was small and very quaint. Right in the middle of the historic district of the city. You drive along and think there isn't any place you would dare stay in the area and then they stop and you go into a very nice place. There was a small pool at the end of this green lawn and under the covered part to the left was an open room with chairs and tables to relax at.
This is Dad and I with the guy who said he was going to drive the plane, but he didn't really. He did give me some good tips on how not to get sick. Very cute young man. Even spoke English.
This is one side of one of the islands where the birds are. They clean the island every seven years of bird droppings. It takes 300 people to do the job and the droppings get 3 feet deep. I guess it really gets hard and they have to chissle it off. It is a wonderful fertilizer. The pellicans were fun to watch as they were fishing out in the ocean. They were great dive-bombers.
This is the candleobra (spelling?) that is about 3 feet deep and I don't know how wide. It is a mystery how it got there or what it is for. It stays there because they have no rain here. One story goes that it is a warning to pirates. They would need to get pretty close to see the warning.
Anyway, it is very famous around here.
