Even more yet of the trip south.

Well, lookie there. That is the best picture we got of the condor. Dad thinks it looks like a hawk. What do you think? It was beautiful couds with that big bird flying around. He got higher and higher. Rather disappointing, if you ask me.
This was our hotel in Colca Valley and the van 9 of us rode in. We felt like sardines for 8 hours. You can see the thached roof of the main part of the hotel. It was really in a neat valley.
This is the inside of a church we went it that was built in 1875, I think. It was all gold and lots of flowers and ornaments.
I was fascinated with the clouds below us in the colca canyon. They moved from the bottom of the canyon to the top. At one point we were covered with one as it went over where we were.
These two girls are dressed in native costume. The boys you can see part of one on the right were in a more military dress, but with skirts. The story goes, the boys wanted to go visit the girls where they lived and had to dress like girls to get in to court them. The dance was very nice and fun to see these cute kids doing it. Notice the hat on the girls. That is a papermache hat with a large band of seaquins, ribbons etc. to decorate it. These are the hats that have the flowers on them. Two flowers means the girl is single, one on the left means married and one on the left means widdowed. The smaller girl was wearing her mother's hat with the flower on the right. She had the more square face and dark pink cheeks that were sun burned. She was so cute. Very shy.
