We heard the story of how the passion flower got its name. It has to do with Christ and the passion connected with him in the Catholic church. The petals, stamen etc each have some significance to do with Christ. Anyway, it was interesting. They had a mesh-like ceiling to a garden area and the passion flowers grew there. The fruit hung down.

This one is for Emily. See no chickens. This is the bus we took to Arequipa. First class with large seats, meals etc. Very nice. The only bad thing is the TV was loud and they put movies on that were not good at all for ole missionaries.

This is the tower you could climb to look down on two of the Nasca lines. It costs one sole and then up you go. Well, I got to the last level and froze. Never has that happened to be before, but there was just too much open space around me I guess. Anyway, the pictures I took were not very good. I bought some great cards.

This is the typical mountainside along the ocean. Very barren. These huts are for squatters. They just move in and live until they are ready to move on. As you can see there would be no facilities for living, really. One city had a large area where the people from the mountains came during the Shining Path times when things were so dangerous and bad for them in the hills, so they would come to the city for safety. Many of them stayed and have made a very nice area of the city.
