The National Museum in Lima

These pictures are of the National Museum in Lima. It was a giant building and very warm. These was one floor that was all pictures of the Shinning Path stuff from 1980-2000. It was a very bad period in the history of Peru and so recent. They say things are so much better now. I can believe it.

This is a picture from the museum of a man who makes these bulls. The people in the smaller towns up north had them on the top of their house to protect it from I am not sure what.
This is a dress worn by one of the entertainers here in Peru. They are so ornate and beaded and sequins etc. Very amazing. They probably just wear them for one performance.
Another dress. There were about 10 of them and some of those girls are really tiny.
This disiplay was of 29 of the varieties of potatoes. Peru is a big potatoe or papa growing country. They say there are thousands of varieties. These were fresh and so would need to be replaced frequently.
This gold piece was rather scarey. It was probably a head-dress or something like that. All Gold. Dad loved these gold things.
This is a shirt made of plates of gold. They are very thin and we couldn't figure out how it really worked, but WOW.

This is the inside paintings on the large pot below. It is a ceremonial pot and there were three of them there. We wondered if they were filled with things for the next life and then burried with the important person. They have been put back together like a puzzle after being broken all up. They were about 3 feet high. Couldn't carry one very far. They have handles on the outside that maybe you put long poles thru and carry them that way.

This is one of the pots. You can see the handles. The drawings probably have some story behind them, but we sure couldn't tell what they were.

This shirt is made of feathers. They look like they were sewn onto a background. It was made by a people who lived around 1300 bc to 1500 ad. Pretty amazing that it is still in this good of shape.

This is a corner of a tapestry that was made about 150 ad. It is about 5 ft by 8 ft. The characters on it are each one different. Very beautiful hand work. You can't see too well, but that figure is a man or person. He is carrying something and some of them had snakes all around them.
