Trip south in Peru - 2010

This is Dad and I as we are getting ready to go on the boat to see the animals on the island. Don't we look like a couple of ole tourists?
This is the hotel we stayed in in Paracas. We were on the second floor and had a nice balcony overlooking the pool and the bay. It was really a fancy place. So nice and clean etc. There was a really big storm (wind) the day we got there and were afraid we wouldn't get to go to the island. But when we got up the wind was calm and off we went.
This is a shot in Pisco where they had a very bad earthquake two years ago. This is the kind of reed mats they use to make their houses. I don't think there is any roof and it is almost on the beach so it is windy most of the time. The black plastic behind has holes in it so the wind won't break it down. I am not sure why they have it up. Can you see the laundry hanging at the side of the house? This lady stepped out just as we passed. What a way to live. It is along the side of the Pan Am Highway. Not a quiet place for a house.
This is a store front in the middle of town. We saw MANY piles of rubble and old buildings that had fallen down. It has been two years and they are finally getting some of the places replaced. This one put the wood inside what was left of the house. I think it was the roofs that took the brunt of the shaking and came down first. Then the walls.
